Dr. Allan Becker, MD, FRCPC, is Professor and Head of the Section of Allergy and Clinical Immunology in the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health at the University of Manitoba. His primary research interest is the origins of allergy and asthma and other chronic, non-communicable diseases in early life.
He has led several birth cohorts (The Canadian Asthma Primary Prevention Study: CAPPS and the 1995 Manitoba birth cohort Study of Asthma Genes and the Environment: SAGE) focused on that area and is co-PI of the CIHR and AllerGen supported Canadian Healthy Infant Longitudinal Development (CHILD) study.
He has over 260 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Becker led development of the process for National Asthma Educator certification in Canada and development of an Asthma Educator Education Program, AsthmaTrec, which is now used across Canada. He was lead author of the first Canadian Pediatric Asthma Guidelines.
He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) and co-authors the yearly online update of the Global Strategy for Asthma Management and Prevention. He is a member of several NIH Data Safety Monitoring boards.
