Dr. Samuel Godefroy, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Food Sciences, Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences/Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF), at Université Laval.
Dr. Godefroy does research in Food Science, Analytical Chemistry, Risk Analysis and Food Regulatory Policies. His current research projects are related to the management of emerging issues: development of risk based measures associated with allergens in food; regulatory policy development for food fraud prevention and management; evaluation and enhancement of food regulatory systems in developing nations; implementation of regional initiatives for food regulatory policy; and standard development.
Dr. Godefroy recently completed a secondment with the World Bank’s Global Food Safety Partnership where he led the Strategic Development of this initiative. He also held senior food regulatory positions at the executive level with Health Canada for over 10 years, including the position of Director General of Health Canada’s Food Directorate, the Federal food standard setting organization in Canada, from 2009 to 2015.
Dr. Godefroy currently serves as a senior food science and regulatory expert on a number of advisory bodies and committees domestically and internationally, including expert advice to food safety projects led by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and serving on the International Advisory Committee of the China Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA). He has authored over 65 scientific publications and book chapters and serves on a number of international editorial boards of scientific journals related to food safety and nutrition.
